The Different Poker Hands in 7 Card Stud

Poker hands or hand rankings are significant elements in every poker game. These elements serve as the basis for determining the winner in a single game of poker. However, players should be careful in assessing which of these poker hands can be used in a particular poker variation since not all hand rankings are applicable to all poker variants.

For players who are interested in learning the poker hands that can be used in seven card stud, they should first identify whether they will play the 7 card stud high-low or just the ordinary seven card stud because each of them uses different hand rankings. A royal flush is the strongest poker hand in this game. It is consisted of a ten, jack, queen, king and an ace that have the same symbol. Since this is the best poker hand, usually seven card stud poker players who hold a royal flush are assured that they win the game.

The second strongest poker hand is straight flush. A straight flush is made up of cards that are arranged in order. To be called a straight flush, the cards should share the same symbol. On the other hand, a four of a kind is also a strong poker hand. Players can determine if they have a four of a kind if they have four cards that have similar values such as four aces.

Aside from four of a kind, a full house and a flush are also strong poker hands. A full house is stronger than a flush since it should have three cards that have the same value and two other cards that also have the same rank like three tens and two nines. A flush can be identified by the presence of five cards that share the same symbol. A straight is a group of cards that is made up of five cards that are arranged in order even if they do not share the same symbol, while, three of a kind is a poker hand that has three cards that have the same value and two non-identical cards.

Lastly, pairs are included in the weakest poker hands in seven card stud. Two pair is made up of five cards that have two pairs of cards that have the same rank and a different card like two tens, two jacks and an ace. A pair is consisted of five cards with a single pair and three different cards.

The poker hands that are used in seven card stud are not difficult to learn since most of them are widely used in some poker variants. Other poker players need not spend more time learning these hand rankings because they are also applicable in other poker games such as Texas Holdem and Omaha Holdem.
